Meet Our Candidate

Dan Goodwin

Incumbent Candidate for Southold Town Highway Superintendent

Who I Am

I am a lifelong resident of Cutchogue, where I live with my wife Kristen and children Hunter and Maeve.

As an engineer I’ve spent 15 years working in emergency response, industrial maintenance, and on utility and infrastructure projects. Utilizing my skills and experience I know how to stretch a dollar and get the job done right. I also understand that our town is a community built on hard work, tradition and pride and I bring these values to this office.

My Philosophy

The roads and sidewalks we use every day aren’t just lines on a map – they connect our families, local businesses and way of life. Whether you’re commuting to work, going for a walk or heading to the beach you deserve a safe, well maintained way to get there.

I recognized the need for a Highway Department that doesn’t just respond to problems, but prevents them and that is exactly what I have built.

This means smarter comprehensive project planning (with 35+ lane miles of paving and 1.5 miles of sidewalk replaced), better drainage systems (like the 110 new installs), faster snow and storm cleanup (like pre-staging crews and equipment strategically), and sensible budgeting and reinvesting in the department to ensure we have reliable and modern equipment and facilities to provide our community the highest level of service.

My Commitment to You

I do not just manage the roads, I fight for them. I will continue to advocate for us in Albany for more state funding. We pay our fair share and we deserve our fair return. Whether it is grants for storm water abatement or sidewalk improvements, additional paving money or resources for coastal resiliency I will continue to be the voice in the room making sure Southold gets what we need.

Beyond the asphalt and equipment, this job is about listening. It’s about showing up. When a tree uproots in the dead of night in Orient, a sign is damaged in Peconic, a tornado touches down in Mattituck or a record breaking blizzard hits – I will continue to be there. I will answer your calls. I will continue to fight for every neighborhood in Southold, not just the ones that make the most noise.

As your Superintendent of Highways, I will continue to plan the work and work the plan every day to continue to build on the foundation I have laid, with competence, transparency and results that you can see and drive on.

Highway Supt. Dan Goodwin recently had equipment installed at his home and is now among a select group of volunteers across the nation who will collect hyperlocal data that will help to more accurately forecast weather and ultimately lead to better information to provide to the public.
