Meet Jonathan Estreich
Candidate for Mattituck Park District Commissioner

Jon is a registered Democrat, an attorney, is on the Board of the Mattituck-Laurel Civic Association, and is a Captain in the Army Reserve. He was also the County Prosecutor for the entire town of Southold for a year, ending in April 2022. Jon and his wife Meital live in Laurel with their two young children.

If elected as Commissioner, Jonathan will bring great energy and enthusiasm to this role, as he offers a fresh perspective and new ideas. Though he is presently overseas for short-term military service, he is closely engaged in this election, and apologizes for not being here on election day. He sends the following message to those living and voting in the Mattituck Park District:

"I am running for Mattituck Park District Commissioner because I would like to contribute and offer the perspective of a parent with young children. My kids' favorite place in town is the playground at Veterans Memorial Park.

As a Commissioner I would like to make the park district more friendly for our teenagers and young adults. Some of my ideas include building a skate park on unutilized park property adjacent to Mattituck HS and scheduling a "Battle of the Bands" during our concert series where local high school bands can compete against each other for bragging rights. Also, let's fix the mobile website so kids can scroll through our offerings on their phones.

I want to make our properties more fun for everyone else, too. Let's create an outdoor gym with all-weather exercise machines at one of our beaches. Let's add sensory play equipment to the playground at Vet's for children with special needs. We can offer yoga on the beach, reopen the snack bar at Veterans Beach, and have outdoor movie nights. Let's expedite the opening of the planned dog run and then build a second one at a different property.

Next, let's collaborate with our local college and high school sports teams to drum up interest in our sports fields. By doing so, hopefully we can spark interest to restart a little league and softball league on our fields. Same goes for our basketball courts.

Lastly, let’s make it easier to vote. Future elections should take place on a Thursday, Friday, and a Saturday.  This will give our weekenders a greater sense of ownership of our parks."

I welcome the opportunity to work with the community and the Commission on the future of Mattituck Park District. I hope I can count on your support and your vote. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Jon Estreich
