Who I Am
Kate, Paul & Nola
I am a product of the Northeast, where I practiced residential design-build architecture and planning for academic institutions. I have also taught English in public schools in rural Italy.
I’ve been a seasonal Fishers Islander since the 1970s. I moved to Fishers full-time during Covid to be closer to family, and this is where Paul and I have put down roots - this is our home.

Fishers Island FAQ
Q1) Why is there a Fishers Island Town Council/Justice position?
All members of the Town Council used to be Town Justices. Fishers Island retained the joint position because of its remoteness.
Q2) Why is Fishers Island part of New York and not Connecticut?
A better question might be, why is Long Island part of New York and not Connecticut? In a nutshell, there was a charter conflict, and New York had better lawyers. Connecticut’s 1662 Charter claimed its territory extended south across the Sound and Long Island to the sea. New York’s 1664 Charter claimed that Long Island was to be part of New York and that its territory extended east along Long Island to Fishers Island and beyond. New York won, although it wasn’t until 1879 that Connecticut conceded.
